How island orders work
The logistics are the hard part of island work, not the products.
- Call with your list and your sailing time, ideally a day or more ahead
- We confirm stock and quantities on the phone
- The order is staged and ready at the counter
- You pick up on the way to Woods Hole
We are close enough to the terminal that this adds very little to the trip. What it saves is the alternative: discovering mid job that you are one gallon short with a boat schedule between you and the store.
Order heavy
This is the most useful thing we tell Vineyard contractors. On the mainland, running short costs thirty minutes. On the island it can cost a day and a round trip fare.
- Buy the higher coverage number on finish, always
- Bring at least fifty percent more abrasive than the chart suggests
- Carry a spare of anything a job stops without: applicator pads, tape, dust bags
Coverage figures are on the floor finishes page.
Vineyard conditions
Island humidity runs higher than the mainland and the season is more compressed. Most properties are seasonal, which means narrow work windows and floors that sit closed and unconditioned for months.
That pushes two recommendations. Traffic HD over lighter duty finishes, because island rental turnover is punishing. And engineered flooring over solid where the house goes unheated, because it moves less through the winter swing.
Towns
Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, Edgartown, West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah. Contractors across the island order the same way.
