Application, in the order that matters

  1. Prepare the floor to NWFA specification and finish with a 100 grit screen.
  2. Vacuum and tack with a cloth moistened in mineral spirits.
  3. Test the color on the actual floor. Species changes everything.
  4. Apply the first coat liberally at roughly 500 sq ft per gallon.
  5. Let it penetrate 5 to 8 minutes, then remove all excess by wiping or buffing. This step is not optional; leftover material is the usual cause of adhesion failure.
  6. Optional thin second coat at roughly 800 sq ft per gallon, same removal.
  7. Allow at least 2 hours, longer in humidity, then topcoat.

Can I use QuickCoat under a waterborne finish?
It is compatible with all DuraSeal water-borne and oil-modified finish systems. Removing all excess material during application is essential to proper dry time and finish adhesion. If you are topcoating with a product from another manufacturer, test the combination first.
QuickCoat or Bona DriFast Stain?
Both are oil-based penetrating stains with a published dry time in roughly the same range. QuickCoat has the wider and warmer traditional color range, including the Jacobean, Special Walnut and Early American tones that suit older Cape houses. DriFast is the cleaner path if you are topcoating with a Bona waterborne finish. Both are on the shelf in Falmouth.
What colors are available?
