Engineered hardwood is available at JR Hardwood Supplies in Falmouth, alongside solid hardwood and vinyl. It is the usual answer over concrete slabs and in spaces with a hard humidity swing. Call (508) 524-8957 with species, width and wear layer.
Why engineered comes up so often on the Cape
Coastal houses move. Relative humidity in an unconditioned Falmouth cottage in August is a different world from the same room in January with the heat running. Solid wood answers that by shrinking and swelling across the grain, which is where winter gaps come from.
Engineered construction, with its cross-layered core, moves less. That is the whole argument. It is not a cheaper substitute for solid wood, it is a different structural answer to a specific problem, and on a slab or in a seasonal property that problem is real.
We do not publish a live inventory list, because on a floor covering line it would be wrong within a week. Call (508) 524-8957 and tell us the species, width and quantity you are after. You will get a straight answer about what is here, what we can get, and how long it takes.
The one specification that decides everything
Wear layer thickness. It determines whether the floor can ever be sanded and refinished, and how many times. A thick sawn-face layer behaves like solid wood at the surface. A thin veneer is a one-life floor. Two products that look identical on a showroom rack can be twenty years apart in service life because of this number, so ask for it and write it down.
Finishing and maintaining it
If you are buying unfinished engineered and finishing on site, the same system logic applies as with solid wood: stain if the floor needs color, then a waterborne topcoat. Traffic HD for heavy use, Mega ONE for normal residential. If you are buying prefinished, keep the manufacturer's maintenance guidance and use a cleaner that will not attack the factory finish.
Riva Spain engineered European oak
Riva is the engineered line, European oak over a stable core, made in Spain. The planks are 8 inches wide, which reads very differently from a standard 2.25 or 3.25 inch strip floor: fewer seams, more visible grain, a calmer floor overall.
