How Nantucket orders work
Nantucket adds a layer of logistics beyond the Vineyard, so planning matters more.
- Call with your list as far ahead as you can manage
- We confirm stock, quantities and anything that needs ordering in
- The order is staged for pickup at the Falmouth counter
- Ferry from Hyannis or Woods Hole depending on your route
For larger flooring orders needing lead time, the earlier the call the better. Give us the job and the timeline and we will tell you honestly what is realistic.
Order heavy. Seriously.
We say this to every island contractor and it matters most here. A missing gallon of finish is not an inconvenience on Nantucket, it is a lost day and a fare.
- Round up on finish every time. Coverage charts assume ideal conditions.
- At least fifty percent extra abrasive. Old finish eats paper.
- Spare applicator pads, tape and dust bags. Cheap insurance.
- An extra quart of stain in your color, because a touch up you cannot match is worse than a wasted quart.
Nantucket building stock
Nantucket has an unusual concentration of historic properties with original wide plank floors, often pine, often two hundred years old and thinner than anything modern. Those need a lighter hand: less aggressive grit sequences, sometimes no drum sander at all.
If you are working an antique floor and are not certain how much material is left, that is worth a phone call before you start rather than after. See the grit sequence guide.
Salt air and finish choice
Nantucket sits further out than anywhere else we serve, and the salt exposure shows in how fast finishes degrade near entries and on the weather side of a house. Traffic HD is the recommendation for anything exposed. The durability premium is easier to justify when the alternative is refinishing again in three years.
