Why do older Falmouth floors turn pink under light stain?
Red oak contains tannins that bleed through as a pink or reddish cast, particularly under white and light grey stains and under waterborne finishes. Much of the Falmouth housing stock from the 1930s through 1960s used red oak. The fix is Bona Red Out applied before staining to neutralize the bleed.
